Ah, I wonder if perhaps the BBC may release Blu ray doctor who stories in the future. (If Power of the Daleks is really being fully animated it could get a Blu ray release also.)

They would have to upscale the classic series that is why Spearhead from Space (1970) was the only classic series to get a Blue Ray Release and that was when we had Dan Hall in charge of the releases.  That is one I did not but as I had bought the first two BBC standard releases of Spearhead from Space, I put my foot down on buying it a third time although I might pick it up one of these days now that the prices have dropped

Just remembered that the TV movie Blu ray is upscaled rather than HD from the film prints. Might this be a sign of a start of a classic blu ray range?

That one kinda makes sense actually considering the UK is getting it on Blu Ray soon so we probably will soon also.

Just noticed, oddly enough, Logopolis and Castrovalva are still in print separately, but Keeper of Traken seems to be out of print.

Kind of bummed these are going out of print without them announcing when/if they'll be replaced by something else (blu-ray,streaming, etc).

Glad WhoNA still has some of the "hard to find" ones, at least for me they were. The wife is going to kill me though when she finds out I bought ANOTHER set of Doctor Who DVDs.

They did do this as well when the TV movie came out in 1996 with the VHS tapes (causing Hand of Fear to become hard to find on vhs.) Then a few years later the DVD range started. I think this current typhoon of out of print stories may be for a Blu ray range as the TV Movie Blu ray is only upscaled and Power's animatiom could be to test the waters on those for missing episodes.

I just don't see them up scaling the classic series of Doctor Who.  OK Spearhead from Space was shot on film so that was a legitimate exception.  The TV movie was shot on film and them transferred to video for broadcast.

Regular 525 NTSC or 625 line PAL transferred to 1080i just does not look that good up scaled.

The new series was up scaled but it was shot differently than the classic series and no I did not pay to get the up scaled vers0on of New Who as they look just fine the way they are.  Now when they switched to HD production then I bought New ho in HD.

I would suspect the classic series will we streamed some where before its re issued on DVD.
