I assume Warner is letting titles go out of print if they don't get enough requests to warrant re-pressing a new batch of discs. It would be interesting if any of the R1 discs are currently getting re-pressings or if the warehouse stock at Warner is it and we're only slowly finding out as certain titles sell out.

Moratorium is the phrase they used, so they are out of print and not slated for reprint.

Is there any word one why there making all these titles out of print?

The best information we have at the time is that BBC UK is setting up its own streaming service and wants to take back most of the rights to their television shows as a result.

This would make them the sole "go to" place for their complete library of material. At this time, the BBC streaming service is only available to customers in the UK, but I'm not certain how complete this service is at this time.

I broke down and bought an all region DVD player and some of the R2 DVDs...certainly a less expensive option then dishing out a bunch of money for the R1 DVD. Hopefully they'll all be reissued at some point.

My guess would be that they won't be reissued, at least outside of the UK/ Region 2.

The whole situation reminds me of when they finally completed the VHS releases. It wasn't long after the End of the Universe tape set came out that they started taking some of them out of print. Reason- make people get the dvd's now.

If they are trying to work their own digital service, that makes sense for the dvd's being discontinued.

At least the UK dvd's are still an option for now. It doesn't appear that any of them have been taken out of print... yet. I hope they don't take the same approach for their own region. I don't like digital/ streaming... I want to physically own what i get.

Since it's not a US series, I wouldn't expect them to keep a UK series continuously in print for a different region... but if I lived in the UK and couldn't get 'my own' show on actual dvd's, THAT would bother me.

I can't believe 4th Doctor stories are going OOP. I decided to finish off the Season 17 stories for my shelf with an order from WhoNA yesterday (including Nimon). I just hope I can get the rest of 4's run before it's gone, too pale

Yesterday I was shopping at Best Buy, and in their bargain "TV on DVD" bin, they had the Vengeance on Varos SE. If anyone in Region 1 is trying to collect the DVDs then there may be some deals at Best Buy. Something tells me that, after Underwater Menace, Region 1 is dead to the BBC in terms of Classic Who on physical media.

Not sure if this could be part of the reason, but a certain 'big river' will become the exclusive US streaming service for Doctor Who in a multi-year agreement.

Could be... but all Ive seen so far is that the deal is for Nu Who, not classic.

Doctor Who: New Beginnings out of print (we have copies left).

Someone bought out all our copies of Arc of Infinity; we believe that title may also be out of print.

I smell an Amazon Marketplace speculator/seller looking to flip them at an inflated price (not one particular one, just someone). A bit sad for individuals who genuinely want the story, just learning it's going OOP, only to have the whole inventory vanish overnight, but this is a free market economy, after all.

Of course, if I found a shelf-load of the long OOP Two Doctors at a flea market for $5.00 each, you can bet I wouldn't leave them sitting just because I happen to already own it: I would buy every one of them put them on eBay one-by-one to fetch whatever the market is willing to pay.

Expecting people not to speculate would be like expecting people who find rare toys, etc. and expect them not to buy/resell.

I'm just so grateful that I was able to keep up with the releases as they came out so I wouldn't have to play "desperation catch-up" like some folks have to do now.

It's really a shame for fans just now discovering the classic series, or for those who weren't able to get them as they came out.

They are never announced, so we think they are selling through stock and not reprinting.

I think just the classic DVDs. The older seasons of the new series are individually being released on Blu-ray now.

Image of the Fendahl
Robot

Those are some of the titles that come to mind. I'm sure there are more.
