PostSubject: Re: Guardians of the Galaxy   Mon Jun 02, 2014 11:11 pm

Started getting some of the GotG toys last week. The rest should arrive Wednesday.

As a sci-fi geek and a designer, I really appreciate the ship designs. And they seem nicely translated. First up is the Nova Corp Star Blaster. A simple design in some ways, but the color scheme is killer, and the unfolding wings look SO COOL. The Nova Corps member is well-painted. I wish there was an easy way to army-build them with weapons they could actually hold, though. One note - all those red stripes? Stickers. I pity the child putting those on.

And last but not least, the Milano! I love the design of this one as well. It's a little sad some of the color on the wings is achieved via stickers as it doesn't match the nice metallic paint well. But at least we were given a lot of stickers to finish off the look. Even for the underside, which is appreciated. They add a lot. The lights and sounds are nice enough, but in a weird way this ship is probably the least fun to play with because it doesn't have as many moving parts. I was VERY happy you can fit three figures inside! It always annoys me when you have a representation of a large ship that only fits one figure.

More pics on my Flickr if you want to see them: https://www.flickr.com/photos/31045631@N00/

Rocket's ship - VERY cool design. The stickers add a lot of color. The wings pivot up and down. You can attach all the (rather oddly shaped) weapons to it to deck it out, but I won't display it that way. The weapons can also attach to Rocket's back to make a kind-of jet pack. It's interesting that this is his ship and they didn't really make a good way for him to "sit" in it since he's not articulated. The space is pretty big in the cockpit (obviously made to fit any figure) so he just kind of lays in there. LOL. The Rocket figure is nicely done and painted for such a little figure. It's not in the instructions as an actual play feature, but the bottom does come off and looks like a separate glider vehicle to me. I'm sure it's probably just the way it was constructed, but I think it looks neat separated, too.

With the other weird weapons attached

The sort-of jet pack you can make for Rocket out of the wings.

The unofficial action feature where you can separate the bottom and top half.

Nice, CA!

Personally, I only picked up the Nova and Iron Man....both are great figures.

REALLY hoping to get the comic book versions of these characters if the movie takes off; have the Rocket Raccoon BAF and Drax; Starlord is in the Thanos Imperative box set, so that just leaves Gamora and Groot.

Yeah, we need the rest of the main cast at least in comic ML form. Though I'd love to have Bug, Mantis, Cosmo and Phyla, too.

GotG toys for the win! Love these guys.

*The lights and sounds Rocket is AWESOME. He shakes around and lights up as he fires the rifle, which lights up different colors. he says phrases, and his gun also runs out of "ammo" and you have to reload it.

Lights and sounds Star Lord is a nice, big representation of the character but has very limited articulation. His accessories are cool, though.

*The Marvel Legends figures are great, mostly. Very nice paint apps, including some neat metallics on Gamora. Star Lord is my favorite of the bunch. I might need to buy a second to put the Peter Quill head on.

The 2.5'' toys are a lot of fun with the ships. It's cool to get so many of them and do some army building for not much money. I wish there was a Kree ship in the mix, though. Also, the worst thing about them is that they don't have properly scaled weapons for them. Some of the transparent ones are close-ish, though.

Loved the movie. 94m for the weekend! An amazing haul!

Got the Guardians of the Galaxy Necrocraft the other day. It's a cool little craft. Not sure kids will be clamoring for it, as it's a bit of weird design. But it's a fun little toy. Both wings go up and down when you move one of them. And, of course, it features a cockpit.

One funny thing, the sprue of weapons it comes with is the same that comes with the Gamora/Star-Lord 2-pack. Which means you get another Star-Lord blaster, which is nice. And another Gamora weapon. But it's, of course, an odd match with this ship.

Just got back from seeing this! Loved it! There was everything you'd want: action, humour, sad scenes, happy scenes, friendship, bettering oneself, self-sacrifice, and Thanos!!

Lots of very Star Wars elements to it, too, such as the space battles and the aliens, so I felt at home watching this. bounce

I can't wait to see more of these guys, they're all great. However, I think my favourite is Groot. Razz

According to an article i read, they were already starting to check out toy companies to produce one as soon as they (Disney, etc) saw the finished film a few months ago.

I really enjoyed this movie. I haven't followed the modern comic but was familiar with the late 70s-early 80s versions of the characters, and I was happy to see so much of them made it into the movie. (Naturally, I dug the soundtrack as well.) They may be major characters now but they were definitely fourth-stringers when I first got into comics, and it was cool to see Marvel's "obscure" spacefarers in the spotlight.

Like Scary noted, there a quite a few "elements" reminiscent of "Star Wars"...and they put me in mind of how enjoyable "Star Wars" used to be. It's been absolutely lousy since the midpoint of "Return of the Jedi," and the next movie would do well to borrow a few elements from "Guardians." This is the new standard for freewheeling sci-fi adventure...not to oversell it or anything.Razz

I'll be honest, when I first heard this movie was coming, I was horrified. I hated the comics back when I read them. But the more I saw about the film, the more I expected to like it... and boy, did I!
Cosmo was one of the things I hated about the comic, but
Spoiler:

And another Marvel character I've always hated,
Spoiler:

, showing up brought an honest laugh from me.
I loved this film.
I don't generally buy lots of figures, but I want the whole set of these.
I don't buy soundtracks, but I have the deluxe edition of this one.
I can't wait for the next installment.

I thought the appearance of that second character Calixar hated was a sign Marvel Studios is getting a little too cocky. As if every Marvel movie is such a guaranteed blockbuster, they can tempt fate by reminding moviegoers "that" actually existed. If the next Marvel film tanks we'll know who jinxed it.

Wife and I just got back from seeing it.

Great, Great film.

That finale. Man, I'd honestly forgotten about the set up to that earlier in the film.
