Exciting! Love the pic, though I'm sad we don't get to see his new costume! I wonder if he doesn't get it until the end of the episode? I guess that'd put off showing us it.

Yeah, I'm wondering if there will be a big press call when the final costume is revealed like there was with David Tennant and Billie Piper. I don't remember them doing that with Matt, tho...IIRC we first saw his costume via set pics.

Those are definitely the costumes from the end of "Time and the Doctor" so it looks like it will pick up right after the special.

...wears it better than Matt did...

Yeah, the outfit actually looks really good on him! The purple with his hair is great. It'll be interesting to see what he actually goes with.

Honestly, I wouldn't object to that being his outfit. Matt's old one sans the bow tie and with unbuttoned sleeves. Kinda like the Second Doctor in a way, same general outfit just worn differently.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw the pics earlier. It really does look great on him. He could be the first Doctor to wear the same clothes as a previous incarnation!

Nah, get away from the "costume" look and back to wearing clothes.  Matt's tweed jacket was fine but then the spirit of J-N-T took over costuming and he ended up with an odd purple frock coat.  If Matt had stayed one more season there would have been question marks on his collar. Razz

The 12th Doctor deserves his own look, but hopefully something more off-the-shelf and not custom-tailored-to-look-eccentric like they started giving 11.

But now to hide away before the spoilers start flowing on who or what is being filmed for Series 8.

Came across this on Tumblr, but the source wasn't listed. I hope it's legitimate.

I wouldn't count on it. I've seen so many Fan Photoshops, my eyes are bleeding. LOL.
It'll be all over when the official reveal does happen.

I liked the purple frock coat. It also made sense, considering he'd been in self-exile in Victorian London for who knows how long.

I would not object to something a bit more..."eccentric". Eccelston and Tennant's outfits were boring. Matt and Hurt's outfits were a step in the right direction for a "man out of time".

I would suspect, that with Peter's input, we may see something more like the early Doctors.  A Victorian or maybe Edwardian era type look.  Or maybe he could go borrow something from Downton Abbey?

He has been a fan since he was 5 years old, and Hartnell was his first Doctor.

There's some video from set out, and it has been gif-ed:

I don't think that that's Capaldi's standard Doctor costume, but something the Doctor's wearing for this scene.

THere are a couple of sharper, larger stills that have led fans to believe it is a Victorian era "nightshirt".

Sincerely,

Bill

Yes, I highly doubt the Doctor's new costume is his pyjamas... Razz

So, the TARDIS crashes in Vastra's London and the Doctor is put to bed to recover from his regeneration? But of course, some threat makes him have to hop out of bed and prove that he is the Doctor?
