I loved the new movie too! It felt like something different, but I still enjoyed the heck out of it. Smile

I have been a Star Trek most of my life, but kind of lost interest as an adult. The 2009 movie kind of revved that back up some.

I do hope we get a new series one day soon that can better explore the exploration part of Star Trek. That's pretty much always been missing from the movies except perhaps the first one. So I won't hold that against these. I think that would make some Trek fans happier in general.

I'm just excited with what we're getting. I don't like the title or poster for this, but I can't wait for the movie itself. I saw the last one four times. Smile

Back on topic. I can't wait for this movie. I think the poster is BAMF, and I have a special trip planned to see this in IMAX 3D. On opening weekend of the 2009 movie I just happened to be visiting Chicago with my buddy, so we saw it in what is considered a regular theater (still bigger than the ones in Green Bay), and we liked it enough to go AGAIN on that sunday at the IMAX on Navy Pier.

This year, we are going to Milwaukee. Still about a 3 hour drive, but it will be a weekend trip just like Chicago. Cannot WAIT.

I just wish JJ Trek had better figures to represent it.

Get a toy company that knows what they are doing, or a group like the Four Horseman.

Well, the line "I have returned to have my vengeance" is a pretty overt clue. Khan seems more and more likely.

That being said, Blonde Gal shown in the trailers is a dead ringer for Elizabeth Dehner, from the Gary Mitchell episode. Unless she's supposed to be Nurse Chapel.

All things considered...looks interesting. Attack on Earth is yawn inducing, but the shot of the Enterprise/Constitution Class Vessel skimming the water almost makes me wonder if it's not going to involve activating a Warp Drive in an atmosphere.

EDIT: Also, the Extended Trailer shows Kirk in a few scenes in a different uniform - the new Dress Uniform, maybe?

Frankly, I hope it is not Khan or Mitchell,I would like an original idea for the villain. Beyond that, I will wait until the movie to judge.

The two hands against 'glass' could be a repeat of the engineering scene from Wrath.

Yeah, the Japanese trailer has that extra few seconds, suggesting Khan is the villain. Personally I think JJ is messing with us. I don't think it's Khan, and I don't think Spock will die in this one, as some have suggested.

It appears that the Enterprise crashes into the water at some point, as we see it rising out of the water, with 'NCC-1701' clearly written on the nacelles. All in all, this looks very interesting. Barely any shots of the main crew in their uniforms though. Seems like it's mostly civilian clothing.

I had a random thought at work.

We hear the narration talk about Family during a scene where we see a arm clad in black (a la the villain of the piece) and a blue uniform (a la Spock). We also hear that he has come back for vengeance, and that vengeance seems to include Earth.

My question is this: has anyone else noticed the very slight points to Cumberbatch's ears? Or am I just seeing things?

Because my random thought was "What if the villain of this film is Sybok?"

Interesting idea. Gary Mitchell has been killed in this universe, or at least appeared to be. The Starfleet uniform worn by BC, also the synopsis saying that the threat comes from 'within their own organization' suggests that the villain is a current or former Starfleet officer, which does not preclude Sybok.

From the official comic, we know that Sarek came up with a plan to get revenge on Romulus by detonating their sun using left over red matter. Spock talked him down from it.

Perhaps if Sybok was off planet when Vulcan was destroyed, like in some kind of exile, maybe its destruction drew him to Starfleet, and maybe now he is trying to get revenge?

This is all conjecture, of course. It could be a completely new character. I think they are intentionally hinting that it is Khan so they can pull a switch. Just my opinion though.

Khan's too obvious a choice. Plus, they'd be banging that drum so hard and loud there wouldn't be any speculation. Khan is the Grail Villain for Trek (I mean, every villain after WoK tried to be Khan). I don't think they'd keep mum about him.

I've also heard speculation that the blonde haired gal may be Carol Marcus.

You are correct IMO, sir. Carol Marcus would make a great tie in to the old continuity.

It's probably just a random piece of space booty Kirk nails in the first five minutes of the movie and never seen again.

She's still a dead ringer for Elizabeth Dehner, and with a hairstyle as distinct as that, I can't imagine it not being deliberate.

I showed my mom the trailer and gave her a brief rundown of Where No Man... I pulled up some pics of Dr Dehner and had them side by side with the trailer to show her. It's so close, it can't be a co-incidence.

Elizabeth Dehner:

Gal from Trailer:

Yeah. I think I'm calling the movie for Gary Mitchell. I think this is another instance of "Comic Be Damned - let's do Where No Man Has Gone Before as a big budget action flick."

Which is fine by me. I've never understood limiting storytelling potential simply because the story's "been done" in another medium - one that most audience goers wouldn't be aware of in the first place.

Right, but the comic is done by the people who wrote the movie, specifically designed to fill in between the movies. Dehner didn't appear in the comic, so she may be in the film, but Where No Man Has Gone Before has been done. When they started the comic, they said specifically that it was in continuity, and that they wouldn't do any overlapping stories with the movies.

Maybe the villain is someone who also went through the barrier and became god-like, but unless Mitchell is a Time Lord, who can regenerate, then he's still floating in a torpedo pod in space.

The Trek films are by the same guys who did the Transformers films.

The ones who kept insisting Megatron was not in either sequel.
