I liked Civil War as well.  The whole airport battle was pretty good.  It kept me entertained for several hours.

I don't think this is a spoiler, just a big plot hole:
Not really a spoiler?:

I actually thought Steve's view was pretty understandable, but you have to look at what he went through from First Avenger til now.

If the Accords came up during WW2, or right after he woke up in the present day... yes, he would be on the side of the UN. At that point, he is still the dutiful soldier who believes in the system, and that his superiors are motivated by the same high ideals he is.

The first crack in his belief system comes in Avengers. It never occurs to him that "his superior officer" Fury would lie to him or have secrets... which is why he is shocked and insulted when Tony (and Bruce) suggest Fury is hiding things from them. Lo and behold, Fury and SHIELD are developing weapon systems based on Hydra tech. Once that high level of trust is broken, you can never get it back.

Steve learned he can't completely trust his superior, the director of the whole SHIELD organization, and that person might be doing things that aren't on the up and up.

Now we get to Winter Soldier.

First he learns about Project Insight. Hmm... a SHIELD approved project monitoring everyone, without the public knowing about it, with the intent to PROACTIVELY strike against whoever is considered a threat. Hmm.. the public being kept in the dark about a government agency that is invading public and personal privacy... pretty much goes against those concepts of liberty and freedom Steve believes in.

Oops... news flash. Hydra infiltrated SHIELD, and no one was the wiser.

Steve learned it's not just single authority figures that you can't trust, or can't believe they are only going to do the right thing... it's whole agencies and organizations too.

He learned the hard way that these people and entities are not operating with the same high values and moral compass he is.

And now we get to the Accords. Oh look, the UN. Here comes another political entity trying to take control of him and his team.

Remember his comments during the initial discussion... Ok, accountability is a fine and dandy idea, but what happens if they order us to do something that we don't want to do, or keep us back from doing something we should?

Yes, he is still a soldier, but he's not following blindly anymore. If the people in charge aren't operating on the same principles he is, no way he is going to follow them. The only one he can trust to do the right thing is himself.

To me, Steve choosing to rebel makes perfect sense.

Good points. Maybe I need to go back and watch all of these movies back-to-back to keep the movie characterization separate from the older 1960's comic continuity.
It certainly helped watching "Casino Royal" and then immediately "Quantum of Solace" made much more sense.

I had to scrawl a list of grievances against X-Men: Apocalypse on my dinner placemat like a professional. https://mattthecatania.wordpress.com/2016/05/29/x-men-apocalypse-has-a-shallow-gene-pool/

Having Civil War as the 3rd Cap movie flows nicely from the Hydra/SHIELD thing in Winter Soldier. Plus it is a nice juxtaposition between Cap's old fashioned 'Truth, Justice, American Way', and the neo-con post 9/11 paranoid agenda. To me, this rang pretty true as far as Cap's reasons for fighting. He just got done fighting fascists every bit as bad as the Nazis, and they were hiding in plain sight. Therefore, he would trust his own moral compass rather than following the orders given like he did in WW2. As the bad guys get harder to identify, he would rely more and more on his own sense of right and wrong.

Now, I enjoyed Xmen Apocalypse, kinda, but it can't compare to Civil War.
