PostSubject: Dr Who USA Tour in the 80s   Wed Apr 13, 2011 11:30 am

Here's another interesting thing for you old time Dr Who fans Very Happy

Anyone remember the Dr Who USA Tour in the 80s? I heard they travelled in a truck but what places (state/city/town) did they stop at?

Also, do you have any personal recollections, memorabilia, photos to share from this Tour?

Ah, a trip down memory lane......

Jany

I went to it at the WILL-TV studio in Urbana IL when it came through there. I have no pictures. I remember McCoy sitting outside of the trailer signing autographs with Bessie near by. It was before any of his episodes aired on WILL.

I remember it but alas no pictures. It came to Pittsburgh as WQEX was the local PBS station showing Doctor Who at the time. Sarah Sutton (Nyssa) was there and I do remember chatting with her a bit. They also had a contest for people to vote as to which Doctor QEX should show next once their current set of Tom Baker episodes ran out. I remember voting for William Hartnell because I had never seen any of the 1st Doctor up to that time. I also purchased a nice Doctor Who USA Tour coffee mug which sadly I broke at work less than four or five months later.

All I have are the mentions in DWM about it. I wanted to see it myself. I have never had a genuine in the flesh 'Who' experience myself. Sad

This might be better recieved if moved to the "Doctor Who Discussion" part of the forum, as this section is ironically, not often looked at except by some of us who just live here. Smile

I remember hearing about the Denver stop on KRMA. I also remember how crushed I was since it was at about the same time my family & I were packing to move from CO to the Bay Area, and even then I couldn't go to the San Fran stop! Irritated is the polite term for what I felt (& still feel about missing that TWICE!) Evil or Very Mad

I am seriously irked. I didn't remember the exhibit going to San Jose CA in '84! It makes more sense since KTEH ran Who while KQED I don't think did (they had Hitchhikers, Monty Python & I forget what else late on Sat nights). That was TWO stops I missed after moving to CA from CO. Seriously irked No (& tremendously envious of the folks who managed to get to the exhibits then and make it to the conventions now). Razz

Sacriligeous!!! How could they treat an iconic trailer like that!!!! Sob! Sob! I wonder if there is any way we can recapture the old paint job on the trailer? Where did you see this, towerdalek2?
