I'm with you. I always liked Ribos myself (not that Pirate was bad ...was there anything Doug Adams did that was?). Its been a long time since I last watched Pirate actually (I have the set as well).

By the rotting gut of the sky demon, I've watched it over 30 times in the last month! And I'll be watching it again tonight! I just have it on in the background when I'm in my workshop. Whenever I hear the Captain start shouting I laugh. Greatest villain ever.

Key to Time is very special to me. It was Pt 2 of Ribos that I first saw way back in 1981 when I flipped on my PBS station to see what this Doctor Who was all about. Its been one long exciting ride since then.

I like what I've seen of it, thus far (Still have to work through The Power of Kroll and The Armageddon Factor).

I loved almost all the parts (not a fan of Tara except for Romana's blue outfit), but the final post-key to time assembly ending seemed a bit rushed and anti-climactic.

What I should do is sit down, with or without my nieces, and watch the run from start to finish. In the several months I've watched Ribos, Stones & Kroll, but not the others and not in order.

I seriously don't think the order would matter much, except for when they mention what segment they are after. As long as you watch Ribos first, and Factor last.

Always liked Ribos Operation and Stones of Blood. Never really cared much for Pirate Planet, though.

Biggest problem with The Pirate Planet is it's resolution is lighting quick. Another episode and it'd have been perfect, in my opinion.

That kind of thing tends to happen a lot. Armegeddon Factor was perhaps an episode too long, so it would have been nice to give one to Pirate! Very Happy

I'd have been happy if they made it an extra FOUR episodes and dumped Stones of Blood.

And yes, Armageddon Factor was way too long. There was no need for it to be six episodes.

Thinking about these stories makes me miss Mary Tamm. She was a great Romana. I actually like her better than Lalla Ward. (Please don't shoot me!)

EEEK!

(I do like Lalla, but I think Mary had an "elegance" about her no other companion had. She had the "look" and "feel" of a Time Lady to me. Tall, beautiful, smart, composed. Lalla was just another pretty girl screaming - except for Horns of Nimon, where Romana II got to be a stronger leading character and Lalla got a script to show how good she could be in the role.)

I would have cut Stones to two episodes, and dumped the justice machines....

I would also cut Stones to two episodes, and dumped the pointless Druid Sacrifice and Stones that Drink Blood plot that is dumped by episode two.

Honestly, Stones of Blood is a false title. It should just be called The Justice Machines. I'd like to see those stones revisited, but done properly and not just tacked on as a time filler.

I'm with ya there.

As with Stones of Blood, I liked all the Druidism and the Ogri, it was the justice machines that I did not like.

Interesting how people are split between the Druid stuff and the Justice Machines. I never realized people preferred one over the other. Neat. For the record, I can't stand either of them. The only Who DVD I own that's never been played.

As for Romana, I think Mary Tamm played the naive, never-left-Gallifrey-before role very well. When Lalla came in, she played it with much more confidence, almost as if there was a season missing in between the two. I can't pick one I like better. They both played the role too differently to really compare them. But Lalla's way hotter. Wink

I loved both parts of the story. Being a horror fan, probably the Calleach/ Ogri/ cult more, but I still wanted to see the Megara pop up out of the blue in a future story having finally caught up with the Doctor again.

For me, with regards to the Romanas... Lalla was cute, but Mary was sultry. I wish Mary had stayed longer.
