Remember when the Doctor was going to wipe out the Daleks before they evolved and said, "If someone from the future pointed out to you a child, and that child would grow up to be totally evil, a ruthless dictator who would destroy many lives and lands. could you then kill that child?"

Well, would you? Question

Nope. It's not my place to judge and quite honestly, destroying something before it is given a chance at life is even more cruel than whatever it was that will be evil.

I'd try to persuade him to be good.

I wouldn't kill the Daleks, or anyone. Well... Yeah, I just wouldn't kill. What I would do in a case like this is try to stop them from evolving into being evil and instead good Daleks would live!

I could not do it. Even if I knew that they would be evil, I would still give them a chance at life. It is their choice to decide whether they are good or evil, but at the same time, how would I know if the future was set in stone. All it takes is one small change in the present that can affect the future.

What if you try to kill the kid but fail? For all you know, it could be this attempt on his life that sets the kid down the evil path.

Oh yeah, that's another good reason not to try to kill him.

Well, would you? Question

it would rewrite time and the universe you end up in when you return will not be your own.

Well, interfering with time could be very tricky. Let's look at Hitler. If you were to remove him as a child, it would not stop WW1, or the Nazi party. What if the new leader of the party would be someone who was not quite a "loose cannon" so to speak, a far more capable leader. The outcome of the war could be vastly different. Germany could have won.

This is one reason I love Alternate History books, especially those by Harry Turtledove. They take a look at what would happen with a few changes in history.

Oh, so my answer is no. I am not God....or a Timelord.

I couldn't do it, though I know I'd be tempted. If I did, I'd spend the rest of my time wondering if I'd just stolen a chance from the Daleks to learn & change before they went to the dark side. Then again, going from humanoid Kaled to tentacled blob Dalek, I might be doing them a favour in the long run. Genesis was such a good story because it explored that question, did it in a non-threatening way that was accessible to adult & child both.
