It was a good episode, but taking Van Gogh forward in time bugged me simply because I question if any man has the right to know his impact on future generations.

But as I've said elsewhere: That's a needlessly heady question for a otherwise delightful episode.

Was anyone else a bit saddened when the Doctor, without thinking, mentioned Rory?

I don't understand why the Doctor remebers Rory but not Amy? Amy remembered the soldiers and Angels eaten by the crack so why not him? If Rory's erased from time, does her wedding dress and ring evaporate or does she just marry the other bloke in town? Does the crack in time get paradoxically created once Amy realizes she ought to have a fiance?
I really liked the scene with the Van Gogh-o-vision of the sky.
The circus posters burning off was cool.
The Bill Nighy cameo reminded me of the John Cleese cameo in City of Death.
Amy should've made The Ultimate Ginger with Vincent.
Lust For Life is recommended if you want more Van Gogh.

Best episode since "Eleventh Hour." Just wanted to put my two cents in...

Not being flippant, but when Vincent mentioned his brother, I could not help but think of Leonard Nimoy.

"Huh?" some of you ask.

During the early 80s, Nimoy, trying to prove he could do things beyond Spock, produced a one man play for himself that revealed the life and trials of Van Gogh as told by his brother Theo.

Of course Nimoy would have been far, far too old within the context of this outing, but the fanboyish aspect of me kept expecting Nimoy to pop in for a line or two, pleading with his brother, Vincent.

Sincerely,

Bill

I had totally forgotten about "Vincent"! I wonder if that was ever recorded and released on VHS?

I remember it aired on what was called simply the "Arts" network, before it was restructured to become "A&E". This was before I had a VCR, but I did record the audio, which where the strength of this play resided.

Alas, I misplaced those cassette tapes years ago. So, yes, I wouldn't mind a professional copy of this presentation.

Sincerely,

Bill

He regenerated. And he's Jack. And RTD couldn't have his clothes burn off.

The burning paper may have also been a subtle hint about the impending disaster.

that scene where the doctor took him to the gallery...was really to me one of the best scenes I have ever seen in who...overall I have to say this was my favorite one this year. The starry night sky scene was so beautiful. I've grown so cynical over the years but when I see stuff as good as this I feel gobsmacked.

I think it was an okay episode, that creature( forgotten it's name. lol.) was scary, but then you find out it's scared, so it's got a good side. I think they do that too much. they chose the right person to be Van Gogh though, so overall, I good episode.

I always took the new "Time Vortex" to be indicative of the upheaval the Time Line is undergoing thanks to "Silence Will Fall".

Just had to revisit this episode after hearing of the theft of a Van Gogh this week. An amazing episode.
