I think he's just trying to stir things up. Otherwise, he just hasn't been paying attention. If he was, he'd have noticed things like the past faces of the Doctor in his journal (Human Nature) and the occassional reference to previous lives.
True, this show does not want to bog itself down in past continuity, but that hardly constitutes a "remake." It's a continuation... and it's hardly a full-on kiddie show. There are some definite dark themes and have been hints at... uh... adult topics (can you say "Jack Harkness"?).
And no... I've met no fans of the old show that hate this one. In fact, for a few months after seeing Eccelston I couldn't watch the old show (I'm over that now). I know one guy here who hadn't watched Who since he was a kid that has had his love for it rekindled by this show (which he feels is superior).
