Hi folks,

A fellow named Rob Britannicus has been posting about how the new series is a remake (and how much he hates it)...

http://www.megomuseum.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/topic.cgi?forum=24&topic=259&replies=26

It continues here...

...And here...

I just wondered if any of you have encountered anyone with this viewpoint? Is it even worth it to argue with somebody about it?

I've tried to convince him (as have others) that there are more things tying the series together, than make them different, but to no avail.

All the fans I've run into here and elsewhere on the web love that Doctor Who is back and even though some folks aren't enjoying every detail of the new series, I haven't heard anyone (besides him) say it's a remake and say they hate it so passionately.

Please let me know if you've met any of the "uncountable devotees to Doctor Who" he mentions that hate the new series.

I'm just curious.

best.

Dana

I think he's just trying to stir things up. Otherwise, he just hasn't been paying attention. If he was, he'd have noticed things like the past faces of the Doctor in his journal (Human Nature) and the occassional reference to previous lives.

True, this show does not want to bog itself down in past continuity, but that hardly constitutes a "remake." It's a continuation... and it's hardly a full-on kiddie show. There are some definite dark themes and have been hints at... uh... adult topics (can you say "Jack Harkness"?).

And no... I've met no fans of the old show that hate this one. In fact, for a few months after seeing Eccelston I couldn't watch the old show (I'm over that now). I know one guy here who hadn't watched Who since he was a kid that has had his love for it rekindled by this show (which he feels is superior).

Britannicus is a nutter. Ignore him.
