I split this off from another thread because I think it deserves its own discussion and speculation.

My thoughts is that this will end the 5" line of Doctor who figures. What we see at toyfair 2017 will come out, but most likely Funko will want to assesss what exactly they have and the performance of each of its lines. It's pretty obvious that Doctor Who's current merchandise presence and performance is not optimal and needs to be reevaluated to maximize its potential with the fan base and the marketplace.
I'm not trying to be a doom and gloom soothsayer, but we have all seen that the market isn't there for the current line, especially for classics. A new owner is not going to want to keep going status quo for a minor nitche collectors demographic. after a market and probably a ratings evaluation of the new season, funko will devise a new strategy. They have an existing action figure format with their 6" lines for Game of Thrones, firefly and such. They also introduced a new 3.75 inch format (suicide squad) that replaced their shared ReAction retro format which reverted back to Super7 (who continues on starting with Hellboy)

Could Who fall into one of those styles as a toy line relaunch? I honestly could have easily seen Classic Who in the retro ReAction line, but funko split away from that.

Do existing collectors who only want to keep the status quo out weigh the potential market of a new line launch? If so, are there enough of them to bother keep producing for? WhoNA has stated that sales for their 3rd Doctor exclusive set has been poor and it was a mistake for them to do it. That is not a good sign for the strength of collector market for this brand as is.

I think 6inch is the way to go, since collectors of other lines may dip in a pick up a favorite to go with their existing fandoms like a classic marvel fan buys a 6inch 4th Doctor. There is a lot of crossover potential in utilizing a popular standard scale format to gain sales. Funko could do two 5 figure waves per year along with a small handful of exclusive variants that would cover a fair amount of characters over the first several years...Doctors, iconic villains, companions (utilize the variants for costume changes of wide released characters)

Again, I apologize if I'm coming across as doom and gloom, but my goal was to gather my thoughts on a possible realistic approach.

But it's Character Options that have the licence, not UT. If Character decide they want to give it up then I can't see Funko picking it up.

I dunno. I think this news could turn out well for 5 inch DocWho.

I mean, funko is putting out Twin Peaks figures for crying out loud!

While Funko manufactures its own line of items, Underground Toys distributed in the US for Character Group, Zeon, and Wesco. I believe that the majority of items that were actually produced under the UT name were plush toys and some one-offs, like stickers and such.

We have a good working relationship with both companies, so all should go well, as long as certain lines of products are not dropped in the transition.

UT had informed us that there would be little or no new product for the first half of 2017; this may be the reason (transition), but they did not give any specifics.

At the toy fair yesterday, visiting Underground Toy's booth, I was reminded that Underground Toys USA and Underground Toys are now two separate companies. The Underground Toys that was bought by Funko is apparently the UK one, not the US one.

That is correct; they just informed me that US UT is status quo and UK UT is the one purchased by Funko.

Regarding the Playmobil Doctor Who figures, they are on order and will ship to us upon availability. I'm sorry I don't have any information beyond that.

I know this is a bit outside your anglophilian scope, but do you plan on carrying the Twin Peaks funko products?

Isn't Twin Peaks a spoof of Psych's "Dual Spires" episode?

(j/k, probably not, but we might special order something like that for customers if they ask)

And, off topic, but because it was asked, the Playmobil figures came in today.
