Well now we know who she is.

Good episode, although if the Doctor was really sorry about letting the kid die then maybe he should have used a bit of his regeneration energy. You know, like he shared with Davros.

Or am I not supposed to point out foolish super-powers stuff from one episode that kind messes up all the others? Otherwise the "Kid that Died" was good enough and we'll see what happens next week.

I really, enjoyed that....a few past episode references. Vikings are always fun.
I wonder if this is the end of the glasses, since Moffat has hinted that they were temporary. And we now know that the Doctor can choose his face, even if he doesn't realize it. That explains Colin Baker, and the Caretaker.

Who is she? The Face of Boe? Shocked

Other than being immortal and a hybrid(not the one prophecied by the Timelords?)I still don't know who she is.

Other than the glasses being smashed and the last 2 minutes in the Tardis I found this episode boring Sleep

She's a viking kid with a good imagination.  What else do you need to know?

She's not Susan, she's not Romana, she's not a young Leela who will loose her memory and get stuck with the Sevateem, she's not any other fanwankish character.  Just a plain old kid who get's her life messed up by the Doctor.

The false-Odin and the invasion is meant to be fairly generic and wrapped up quickly so the writers can focus on the whole "intending to save her and making stuff a whole lot worse for everyone" that the Doctor has appeared to cause.  The viking rejects like ZZ Top and Heidi and meant to be lovable losers who you'll sympathize with and agree that saving the kid is the right thing to do.  Except saving a kid may not be the right thing to do (but somehow the Doctor will set things right next week).

If more revelations are made about an overall series arc and being an even worse hybrid, she's still just starting off as some punk kid in the wrong place.  Not sure that everyone the Doctor runs across needs to be linked to the first 50 years.  The universe gets awfully small when you only run into people that you already know.

Oooooh so that's who she is.Thanks Squish.

I think the Eye of Hades will reveal more about her destiny.

And the Doctor should know by now that even if you can save everyone, you shouldn't.The Universe will have to show him why I guess.

This was a good episode IMO. I knew the invasion thing was rushed, and it's kind of a shame, cause that's 2 episodes in a row where there is a cool looking villain, in this case, the Mire suits, not Cyborg Odin, and have kind of rushed over them. The Fisher King deserved more development IMO.

On the plus side, Maisie did well. I can't wait to see what unintentional consequences her immortality brings. I think maybe we will have some sort of payoff at the end of the season, where the decision to save child Davros comes back to bite the Doctor in the arse.

As always, Capaldi does great as a brooding, introspective Doctor. Almost like they are moving him more towards the War Doctor's level of guilt. I like that his mean spirit seems to be gone. One liners are great, and I think they have found his 'voice'. He's not as grumpy, and more sarcastic and witty. I won't say it was a mistake to make him grumpy last year, but I think they took it too far.

Good episode! There wasn't really a story, just a means to make Ashildr an immortal Doctor-like psycho for the next episode, and I don't understand pretend-Odin's and the Mire's motivation for going to war with a village? Were they just blood thirsty? Poor villain characterisation and poor plot.

But I enjoyed it nonetheless for what it was, mostly for the moral and message of the story of mercy and saving people. My favourite scenes were definitely the one-to-one conversations with Clara. And I loved the 'Fires of Pompeii' flashback!! It took me by surprise seeing Tennant and Tate again, and I was very pleased for it! I love that the 12th's face is to remind him of mercy over legalism and such. I just watched 'Fires of Pompeii' again today and was able to enjoy it even more than before with this new perspective on it - and it was great to enjoy Capaldi in it, too!

But yes, not the strongest story, plot and villains by any means, but I don't feel too disappointed because I enjoyed the character of Ashildr, character development of and between the Doctor and Clara, and I very much enjoyed the message of the episode and seeing the Doctor save people/someone! Very Happy

OK, rewatched this. While the aliens are disposable, the character moments between Capaldi and Clara more than make up for it.

'Oh, Clara. What have I made of you?'
