PostSubject: custom figure information   Wed Feb 07, 2007 3:59 pm

I can't post pics of my customs but I wanted to pass along some information and recipes that may be helpful if any one is interested.

I am working on figures in scale with the CO stuff and try to keep as much articulation as possible. Finding pieces in scale can be tough but see my post about Custom Fodder for suggestions.

I use Taklon Synthetic paint brushes made by Loew-Cornell. They
can be found at Michael's craft stores. They cost a bit more than other brushes but the results are worth it.

For paint I prefer to use Delta Ceramcoat Acrylic Paints. They are cheap and come in a variety of colors. The Acrylics are easy to clean up, remove and even mix if you want to. Folk Art and Apple
Barrell brands are also good. Again these can be found at Michael's
craft stores and other such places.

I haven't completed a lot yet but here's some recipes:

First Doctor (William Hartnell) for the base I used an Accoutrements
Oscar Wilde figure. The arms can be removed with a little twisting making painting easier. Replaced the head with a Star Trek The Next Generation figure, I believe is called Dr. Soong. I had planned
to use the coat that came with the Wilde figure but found a Lord of the Rings movie Hobbit figure that came with a black coat. Bilbo I
think it is. I painted that coat black and used it because the length
is closer to being correct. I painted the vest and tie on the wilde
figure. Also repainted the head and hands so they matched. Repainted Wilde's walking stick too. I viewed this figure as a learning experience and plan to make another using the same formula. The Soong head should be smoothed down a bit and the
hair also. The back of the hair also needs to be fixed so it looks closer to Hartnell's wig. One problem with the Wilde figure is the left arm is more or less posed. I need to figure out an alternative. All in all I'm happy with it but next time I'll make it better.

Romana in Time Lord/Lady Robes. I did this one because i had the parts and it was quick and easy. I based it on Lalla Ward as Romana. For the head I used a Tara figure from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Painted the hair pale yellow. Pale Yellow may not be accurate but I like it because it looks like a "real toy" with blonde hair. For the body I used an Ambassador Delenn Babylon 5 figure.
Removed the feet to make the figure shorter. It looks like the bottom of the robe covers her feet. I haven't decided yet about painting the the body. I kinda like it the way it is. I was thinking when i made the figure that even the Time Lords aren't so regimented that they always wear those robes and hats like in
"The Deadly Assassin", "Invasion of Time" etc.

I got a little long winded. If anyone has any questions post them in this section and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Definitely sounds like a great start... particularly the First Doctor concept.

I'd loooooooooooove to see pics, though! Do you have access to a digital camera? If so, you could always sign up for one of those free photo-hosting accounts to show them off.

Sorry. Not only don't I own a computer but I also don't have access
to a digital camera. When something changes and I can post pics of my meager efforts I will.

He said he doesn't own a computer, not that he can't access one. Libraries or schools usually have computer labs people can use. I'm at one myself.

No need to be sorry. You just need to work on your reading comprehension skills. Smile
