Starring Sam Rockwell and directed by Duncan Jones (David Bowie's son). This is a fantastic film. Character-driven and shot beautifully using actual model miniatures and lighting, this film is a thoughtful, serious drama rather than the unrealistic CGI-effects brain candy we usually get. Think 2001 or Silent Running as this film is essentially a one-man show in that he is on a moonbase on a three-year mining tour with only a robot as company. Best pure sci-fi drama I've seen in years. Rent it, or better yet buy it, as you'll want to watch it more than once.

And I just watched it! I loved it a very original story! Where has this been hiding!

In fact, tomorrow, after I drop off the Netflix, I think I will drive to Moviestop and buy it!

This sounds very interesting. I don't like watching movies, thus only watch one every few months, but I'm watching this tomorrow!

Just watched it again last night! Best scifi movie I've seen in a long time. Anyone else get a Space:1999 vide from those model shots?

I just watched Moon for the first time courtesy of Netflix, and it was superb: high-grade science fiction and top-notch human drama. I'll be buying this one right away.

So far, everyone I have recommended this movie to has loved it!

Anyone find otherwise so far? Can't wait to see what he does for the Berlin sequel. And did anyone watch the short film Whistle included on the DVD? Very nice little film, too.

Everyone I recommended Moon to at work loved it. The one guy I didn't recommend the movie to ended up renting it because he heard the rest of us talking about it so fondly. He said he absolutely hated it and turned it off halfway through. This guy also turned the newest Star Trek movie off halfway through, sat through District 9 and hated it, hates Fringe and Heroes, and started saying Lost is the "stupidest thing ever on television" at the start of season 3 (but continues to watch so he can seem more informed when he complains about it). I only take him and his opinions so seriously, obviously. Rolling Eyes

Does he actually like scifi? I can understand how someone might not like some of the items you listed above, but the chances of going 6 for 6 seems unlikely. Dare I ask if he's even seen Doctor Who?

He loves Doctor Who, classic and new!! Also Battlestar Galactica (new and old), the new V, and there's a pretty deep range of scifi movies he likes and will talk about or recommend to people. I lean towards thinking he probably just likes dramas and has a willingness to accept scifi elements (but only sometimes) or is insanely picky with the scifi he does like.

When I wrote that first post about the guy I was still reeling from the lecture I got for saying I'm loving the final season of Lost (which was immediately followed by a rant against Moon, actually).
