| Excuse my ignorance - I only recently discovered that English/European DVD's don't play on American DVD players (just think, they can't spell color either LOL).
Anyhow, what's the difference and how to I get around it? |

| The basic difference between the two 'standards' are a different frame rate and resolution.
Some DVD players have a converter so that you can watch on either kind of TV, but then you still have the region code.
Just research the DVD player you have (or want) and see what other people say about that particular model.
Here's the best place to go when researching a new player. http://www.videohelp.com/ _________________ www.DOCTORXOMBIE.com ------------------------------------------ Doctor Who, Sci-Fi, Horror, TV and MOVIE Discussions www.TIMEWINDS.com

| | If you go to the videohelp forum that Doctor Xombie linked above, you can probably find a code (much like a video game cheat code) to hack your dvd player. |

| There's a website I can recommend, which will save you hacking your player (not recommended, unless you know what you are doing):
http://www.planetomni.com/MSDVD_COBY_dvd-224_DTL.shtml
I got my player from them, and they are pretty good and reasonable. _________________ I'm the Doctor, and who are you? |

| Easiest fix:
By a cheap COBY DVD player at suncoast in most malls or wherever. Call their 1-800 an ask them for the code to switch the region. I can't remeber it off the top of my head but it's as easy as A,B,A,B start( joking it like up up down down in the menu screen and you can toggle it between any region).
Cost $29.99 + tax approx.
Coby is more than happy to give you their hack code because it's not there responsibilty to monitor what you do with your player. It's the dvd makers that restrict things for licensing. The region 2 dvd's do play with errors ocasionally though. If you can't wait for US release this is what I've done.

| So, the color encoding issues and such just go away? I'd been led to believe that you had the shell out for the fancy players because the region was only half of the problem.
By the way, Coby sucks. At the store I worked out over half the Coby's we sold were returned within a week as defective. _________________ Words... words... words! |

| My obsession continues. I've been researching zone-free DVD players (some quite cheap) and DVD Region X, apparently handy-dandy software you use with your PS2.
Anyone know anything about these? |

| | I'll admit Coby is dodgy at best. But a quick fix nonetheless. I've been able to watch all of mine a few times before they start to crap out. I still ended up purchasing the us version of the series now I use the single cases to house the new dvd's. Does anyone else HATE super neato better than sliced bread gatefold dvd cases? |

Yes.
I especially despise the overlapping discs. I don't want to have to move disc one to get disc two. _________________ Words... words... words! |

Same here. That's the worst part. _________________ www.DOCTORXOMBIE.com ------------------------------------------ Doctor Who, Sci-Fi, Horror, TV and MOVIE Discussions www.TIMEWINDS.com

| Folks - please note 77nation had to turn into rsnation - one of those regeneration things (don't ask).
Anyway - if anyone is sending my private mail it should go to the second username (rsnation).
Thanks! |
