| Mr. Hoosier...you gotta go to England at least once in your life!!!! Harrods...they had Chip for starters. The tenth planet- two aisles of Doctor Who toys..shirts...full size Daleks in the window. Doctor Who is everywhere from Waterstone bookstores(children's section) Woolworths to Boots...magazines, candy..you name it. I went in July...very expensive because it was at the height of the tourist season. I also went in September a few years back...alot cheaper and the weather was fab- no rain, 70's. Our dollar is terrible there basically think 2 to 1...yikes. |

| | I travel Europe for a few weeks years ago - missed the UK though. The wife and I are planning a week in London once we finish paying off our student loans and the exchange rate settles down a little bit. Between the history, the culture, and Doctor Who stuff... we might not come back. |

| My girlfriend and I spent a week in London for Thanksgiving last year. Not too many Americans wandering around at that time; it was nice.
Very expensive trip though with the value of the dollar. Like a dork, I convinced her to take a train out to Cardiff to see the Who exhibition there and some of the familiar sites from Torchwood. By the time all was said and done, that day trip alone cost about $450. I also paid another $100 for a 12" RC Dalek.
We were thinking about going back this year, but decided to put it off till next year. |

Seems like a prerequisite is to not go alone, so wont be going to England in my lifetime.
Maybe Canada is the cut price alternative. |

| I first went to the UK in the 1980s - for the music! *sigh* It was a fabulous time, seeing so many of my favourite bands close up in smallish clubs instead of arenas, like now. I met a not-yet-famous U2 in a bar in Dublin!!! And joined a vodka-downing competition with Echo and the Bunnymen in a club in Reykjavik (Iceland). The vodka was brewed from, hmmm, moss and lava I think. The Clash, The Jam, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Simple Minds...ah, those were the days...
I've been back many times, and adore all the history and culture, but that first trip was definitely the best! Things have changed a lot in Europe since then, politically above all. Some of the countries I visited the first time don't even exist as countries any more (like Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, East Germany, and the USSR as one big super-country). And it's all so much more expensive now, although admittedly I'm a bit pickier about the way I travel these days and slumming it along the back-packer trail is not as appealing!
I've been thinking about doing a year of teaching in the UK when my daughter is a bit older, but I'm actually thinking about Scotland rather than England. I love Scotland - it's still so wild and there's lots of open space, even if it is very, very, very WET all the time! |

| So many great bands have come from England over the years.
Is the current UK music scene in as bad of shape as it is in the US? |

| I have always wanted to go to England- although money has always been an issue, someday though! I have a friend that I have talked and written to for 11 years now, I know if I go over there, I could stay at his flat and save some $, that will help. It would certainly be the trip of a lifetime. I am sure I wouldn't want to leave! |

Above link has your reason to finally get to London. Seems you can hit a series 4 premier party, provided you win the tickets. _________________ I'm the Doctor. I'm a Timelord. | To call you stupid would be an insult to stupid people. I've known sheep who could outwit you. I've worn dresses with higher IQs, but you think you're an intellectual, don't you, ape? - Wanda
From the movie that proved americanized Monty Python just means less animation. And yes one of the best movies ever. Never did watch the follow up - Fierce Creatures - which was not really a sequel, just the same cast. _________________ I'm the Doctor. I'm a Timelord. | Actually let me clarify, my quote was from the same movie that LakeErieMonster was quoting. it was NOT direted at anyone. Also the movie was a Fish called Wanda. _________________ I'm the Doctor. JonWho- you don't have to go on the defensive so quickly Gdj's post was marked (-Wanda) which was the characters name, quotes might have clarified it as well.
Gdj-Don't feel bad about not seeing Fierce Creatures, It had a few moments but that was it. _________________ "I reject your reality and subsitute my own"- MYTHBUSTERS |

Yes, and our favourite: Billie Piper! Well, she is, was, a band of one, but she's still our favourite popstar (and actress of course. By the way, this doesn't apply to anyone who doesn't like Billie, I'm just stating that most people on this forum like her.) |

| oh the other thing I did when I was in ireland is I went to a tk maxx...just like out tj maxx. I went to the toy section and they HAD A DALEK SEC 12" FIGURE. Now what sane who fan would not buy such a handsome fellow. He made it back to the states with me and is happily leaning on my old mac monitor as I am writing this...and the jelly babies I picked up from ireland...all gone....cry cry sniffle. Now I have to save up again and hopefully in another two years I can go back to see england, scotland and wales.
Oh and olly- when I was in ireland they had a bunch of Billie Piper cds in a store called HMV...still appear to be selling. Yeah! |
