I just have The Star Wars Bespin guard that looks like me, and I put it on a 7th Dr's body (painted the outfit to match mine). That's the closest I can get!

I've posted these elsewhere so apologies to those who have seen them before (but hey, who can resist showing off their work?<grin>). The great thing about customizing is that you can often get tips on how to make a figure if you can find someone who has made the figure before you. And you can share your own recipes to others wanting to make them, and/or offer your own improvements on other people's recipes. All in all, if you have a streak of creativity about you, then making custom Doctor Who Figures is a funtastic way to excercise it! :-)

I've had a lot of fun making customs for WHO (and Buffy/Angel and Star Wars) - and can't wait to make more! :-)

Here's a group shot of my favorite customs from the past year (actually, my Jammy Doc might be from over a year ago, but close enough). :-)

From Left to Right:
Cyber Ghost Soldier (phasing into our world)
Quad Opening Genetic Print Mutant Reveal Dalek
Christmas Invasion Doctor (in pajamas with rem. hand, sword, and Satsuma (tangerine to us Yanks!) :-)
World Travelling Martha Jones (from Last of the Time Lords)
Rebel Cyberman ("I did my duty..." scene w/ gun and blood tear)
K9 Maximum Defense Mode (retractable Eye Sensor, nose blaster, articulated ears and tail)
Toclafane - with charging stand and torture attachments (not shown)
Emperor's Personal Guard Dalek (w/ Sensor Arm)
Vortex-Possessed Rose Tyler
Captain Jack - Parting of the Ways

Close Up of my Quad Opening Genetic Print Mutant Reveal Dalek (try fitting that whole name on one Figure Header Card! LOL!):

Another group shot - this one with Rose Series I Neutral Stance - and 9th Doctor Neutral Stance and a Blue Scarecrow - both before CO released theirs!!!! :-)

Some people aren't sure what my Cyber Ghost Soldier is supposed to be so I show them this pic of the scene where the "ghosts" materialize into solid Cyber Soldiers. So yea, my figure is of a transition phase that lasts for all of .42 seconds...but still looks cool! ;-)

Finally, not a custom figure, but rather a custom accessory pack that I really really wish CO would make an official version of!!! :-) Includes Auton Mannequin Arm, SLitheen Egg, Psychic paper, and I think the rest are clear what they are (the arrow has a mini-suction cup on the end so it can stick to the TARDIS door like the end of the Shakespeare Code - or paint it silver for the similar scene in Silver Nemesis!). :-)

Thanks Hoosier! Maybe one will turn up in your mail mysteriously, courtesy of a Happy Cyberleader once he's reunited with an EMP! :-)

Err, on second thought, I guess The CYbie wouldn't be so happy to come into contact with the EMP - given that it disabled them in the series! :-) Okay, so courtesy me, just 'cause I'm a nice guy like that. :-) :-) :-)

Now I have to source out sonic screwdrivers for my doctors that didnt have them.

Too bad they didnt release the sonics like they did those spiders for Cassandra and Rose.

The genetic print dalek could use some grime.

I thought about adding grime but decided to leave him clean as he is when he splits apart since that's the most obvious trait on him (and I know he wasn't totally clean after the hand print, but you gotta take some liberties!). :-)

terrasolo - here's some more pics as requested! :-) Basically I used wire (that came with the figures no less!) and drilled little holes in the bottom sides of the screen support in the mutant compartment and on both sides of the chamber itself at the top. Then I attached (glued) the wires to the pieces of the Dalek body that open up and they just slide into the body to close, pull out to an extent when he's open.

And here's what I started with after carefully cutting the body pieces in half (the circles are from a tutorial I made showing how to take a Dalek fully apart). :-) The weapons are different add-ons I made for my custom Daleks. :-)

In custom figure news, here's my Tux Doctor. I know he's been done by many people but once I saw the VOTD pics, I was really disappointed as I was sure CO would have *finally* made the Doc in Tux (given their propensity for 10th Doc figures, it seems the Tux would be the next natural version, and possibly the only significant variant left apart from a Jammies Doc - which I really hope they do, especially now that we have more Sycorax figures! :-)

Anyway, here he is. I still have one final paint app to make, as well as shoring up the paint lines on his cuffs.

He's made from a long coat Doc, taking advantage of the "tight" suit he's wearing underneath so it looks more fitted than just using a suited Doc. The arms are from a suited doc, sanded down a bit at the shoulders to fit better. Right now he's using the Pentallian Doc head (which I still think is the best head we've ever had, tho I know lots of people hate the plastic, I'm quite fond of it in this case). I sanded off his upper breast pocket, as well as the tie. I used Sculpey to make his bow tie as well as to make his shirt sleeves visible. His "pose" is purely accidental, which seems to be a combination of the sanding of the shoulder sockets (which protrude quite a bit to reach thru the coat) as well as the plastic apparently warping a bit while baking the sculpey pieces on! :-) I intend to make a "Cybernetic EMP" thingie (tho I suspect that will be the 2nd accessory in the VOTD set to give Astrylie something to hold (either that or a drink tray!)). :-) I also want to make a Bannakaffalatta - tho surely CO will do one of him (I expect he'll be the "accessorie" with single-carded Kylie to help improve her appeal since female figures need lots of help to appeal to the main target audience (and just kidding - my a priori assumption of CO's thinking in regards to making female figures - LOL!). :-) Any tips or suggestions always appreciated! :-)

Thank you! That's very flattering and really made me happy! :-) And no, I haven't sold my customs before, tho I did have someone request a Buffy one I did awhile back, and I was so nervous about selling it (afraid they wouldn't like it when they got it, etc) that he ended up getting me a Rose & K9 so we could "trade"! Very nice of him (he lives in England and this was before you could easily get them in the states and I love K9!). :-) He told me I had nothing to worry about and that he buys lots of customs and mine was very well done. So that gave me some confidence too! :-)

I think I may put the Quad Opening Dalek up on eBay and see what happens. It seems to get a lot of interest, and it's fun to make, plus the MR Dalek is discounted at a lot of places so it will keep the price down. So yes, I think I will try this - thank you so very much for the kind words and for inspiring me to try selling and see what happens! :-) (if I get rich from it I promise I'll come back and give you a finder's fee or something - LOL!!!).

Thanks again!!! :-)

I reckon you'd get a lot of interest in your PJ and Tuxedo Doctors - they're marvellous! But I know they're a lot of work as well. Have you had a look at the new Primeval figures from CO? Some of them might make a good base for customs (she says, having never made a custom in her life...Embarassed)

And I only wish that CO would make an accessory pack like yours!

Hey Newtster, I am going to have maybe two extra Dalek Secs that you could use for split open conversion. I did the CO lazy version thing. If I was any kind of a painter I would make a Dalek Supreme, but I know what a FUBAR it would become. Dalek

thanks Newton, just one more question, did you raise the dalek mutant up at all? or does he just work in his CO position with the grill removed?

Thanks for the kind words all!!! :-)

terrasolo - yes, I have made his sneakers/plimsoles/chucks/Trainers (never knew there were so many names for what I call "tennis shoes! LOL!) black - and will be (hopefully) posting the final pic of him and Bannakaffalatta tomorrow. My Doc is finished - here's a more recent pic of him but have made a few very minor changes (for the better!) since this pic but pretty much gives the idea of how he looks:

Bannakaffalatta is coming along but dang are his face spikes a pain to do! Tried making them from sculpey - and they all broke off when I picked him up - wayyyy too fragile (I thought I was using "Bake n Bed" but perhaps they are just too small). So trying the "pinhead" route of putting teeny wires in his head. Already popped a chunk out, and if anyone else ever tries this for him or any other creature, it is MUCH easier to just stick the wire in *then* snip it (I was snipping a bunch of tiny pieces of wire then trying to pick them up and put them in one by one - can we say TEEEEEEDEEEEEIOUS? ). :-)

Not so chuffed on the likeness - I've never been very happy with making heads/faces myself, but hopefully he'll turn out passable. I mainly decided to do him and Tux Doc due to them NOT being in CO's VOTD set - really bizarre decision there - perhaps Tux Doc will come along carded someday as hopefully will Banna (I know he prefers his whole name but can't bring myself to type that every time!) LOL! Probably he'll come with a single carded Astrid Kylie as CO seems to think female figures need "help" to sell.

Anyway, other questions:

Terrasolo - for the Dalek Mutant's level in the Dalek shell - no, I did not raise him up - tho I have seen others that have, and I think it is more episode-accurate to have him sitting higher. But he seemed fine to me as-is but I did modify the little "chamber" he's in by cutting a small slit in the top middle and bending the front part up to form two small "tabs" to help make the chamber reach higher up the neck. I also put a couple strips of black electrical tape on the inside back of the neck - between this and the tabs, it ends up looking just fine and not at all looking like any big gap or anything. I did pull the mutant out of his socket where he was glued in so he can be removed easily (which I wish CO had done) and of course painted his eye "bulge" in (which I really wish CO had done!). :-)

Hoosier - I have totally contemplated making a Sec that opens like he did in that most disturbing scene in Daleks in Manhattan! :-) After doing this Dalek, I *think* I could do it. I have an extra Dalek or two I will try it on, and if they end up being experimental learning tools, then I may very well be interested in your Sec's (er...I mean your Daleks - just sounded weird when I read that sentence out loud while checking my typing - my friend just gave me the most priceless look- LOL!). I'll try not to say "How much for your Sec's?" out loud... at least not while someone else can hear me. LOL!!! 'Give's all new meaning to the statement "Hoosier Daddy?" LOL! :-) :-) :-)

And OzSis! Howdy Sheila! (that's proper Ozian, right?) Anyway, thanks for the kind word on my Jammy Doc and Fancy Dress Doc! :-) And yes, I did see a pic of the Primeval Figures - I have to admit I didn't pay too much attention at first but have since learned they are in Who scale and by CO/Designworks, right? Certainly has MUCHO custom potential then!!! But since we don't have Primeval showing in the States, getting the figures will be even more challenging that the Who ones! :-) But I will dig back thru to find that thread on DWF and check them out again so I can see what/who I could make from them!!!

Incidentally, is the show any good? I downloaded one episode of it (possibly the pilot - been a couple years I think) and can't really remember a lot about it. Has it been on long (ie what is the current season #)? I may make an effort to download some more epidoses if I can find them since I don't think the DVD is available here either. I'd hope BBC America would get it but it's made by a rival channel, right? I know BBC America show some things that aren't on the BBC (Graham Norton show that comes on after Who here on Saturday nights - simply because I remember Graham Norton saying that veru thing when a guest said his mom watched the show on BBC America and G.N. had to explain to the audience why he said that as apparently his show is on a rival network. Or something like that. :-) As Willow says "I don't usually use so many words to say something so little" - but of course I always use a lot of words no matter what I'm trying to say, so I don't even know why I quoted it except I had a sudden nostalgia for Willow and thought it'd be cool to insert a Buffy reference somewhere in this message. :-)

Okay, I think I answered everyone who asked something (and probably regret it as I gave a book in response!). :-) :-) :-) And if I forgot anything, of course just ask as I obviously enjoy corresponding. :-) Especially when it comes to my creative endeavors! :-)

For now, I'm of to bed to get a good night's rest so I can hopefully get my customs finished tomorrow and some other projects completed or at least substantively worked on, as well as the more mundane life items like laundry, cleaning my apartment, and so forth. Wish me luck and send me motivational vibes everyone!!! :-) :-) :-)

Cheers, Newton

P.S. Not sure if I mentioned it but I *finally* got my Chip and Rose!!! Hoorayy!!! And I also finally got an authentic "The Story So Far" CO Figure Poster!!! :-) I absolutely love it - though of course I want CO to do a new one and/or *additional* ones with every few new waves so you have a complete st of the lines as they come available (and to leave out figures that already appear like Rose, the grey Krillitane, Jack, and so on!). But I LOVE the format and the background and colors - those should stay EXACTLY the same!!!

And the reason I brought this up - the whole debate about the Sycorax being on Series I cards? Interestingly enough, CO shows the Sycorax Leader as a SERIES II figure on the poster! Interetsing huh? So I think they did it just because the red background looks better. :-) Oh, and I won an auction that my sleepy self bid on that I thought was for a Sycora Warrior and is actually the Leader! DO;t bid whilst half-asleep! LOL!!!

Night night, and sweet dreams all! :-)

Thanks Hooser - I have updated my post to reflect the additional term (at least no one can ever accurse me of not being inclusve!). LOL! :-)

BTW - got your message - so psyched to get the EMP - hopefully will be here Monday! Isn't sad to be so excited about such a tiny piece of plastic??? :-)

As for Sonic Screwdrivers, would you be interested in some custom repo's? I'm going to make a couple today (assuming I get to it of course - I promised myself today would be dedicated to organizing - but somehow I think Who fun will win out as always!). :-) I'll post sme pics later. :-)

For what it's worth I just purchased some figure at KBToys for my son. I'll get pictures up if I get time. Anyway their scale it perfect for who figs I'm using for my son as a generic military /bad guy/person to save. If they are of any use to anyone on clearance at KB $0.98!!

Alex Rider/Stormbreaker

? don't ask cause i don't know. Also I've seen him in the past one guy could easily be customized into a VanStatten.

Ach! I didn't even think about the mail not running today until I stopped to get my mail on my way home and had nothing - not even th ubiquitous junk mail! Then it occurred to me that it's MLK Day - I felt like the forgetful, absent minded dork I am. :-) So hopefully tomorrow! :-)

In the meantime, here's my completed Doctor in Tux. Thanks for the comments and suggestions (the black shoes made a world of difference!). I'm also working on a custom card but thus far have just put him in a black suit the easy way (i.e. black marker - LOL!) but will do up a proper card insert off the laser printer at work at lunch tomorrow or something. Gave him a sonic screwdriver and is glasses as accessories - thinking I may stick in a transporter bracelet now that Bannakaffalatta is proving to be a tough little cookie! I just need a good 2-3 hours to just sit down and devote to him, bt time is always scarce it seems!

Anywhere, enjoy and thanks for any suggestions, etc! :-)

Hoosier - I got the EMP Bomb - You Da Bomb Dude!!! And I LOVE the Ghost Cybie print with Tracey Ann Cyberman!!!! Awesome awesome awesome!!! I even saved the Doctor sticker you used on the back! :-) Your packaging was almost as good as the actual toy!!!

ANyway, mucho thanks!!! And OzJenny - I will try to make your custom EMP tonight, so send me your shipping address and you'll be getting a...wow, I hate to say a "bomb in the mail" - gees, I could get arrested for even joking about that I think! Anyway, a toy, sculpey replica accessory used against an alien cyborg action figure that is totally harmless! :-) Does that sound less like something that would trigger a government scanning system? :-) :-) :-)
