| | Hey guys, I just got his set from the UK and it's a lot of fun. Since it's unlikely WhoNA will get them in, I thought I'd let you know how I got mine. Tesco's have it on sale for under £2! A kind soul on the DWF got it for me and shipped it by airmail. Total cost was only $12 with shipping! So if you have some friends and want this set (I think the communicator was on sale too) this might be the way to go. |

| Looks like we need to start a UK PenPal forum here!
It's just a shame the cost to get items unavailable from WhoNA from the UK is ridiculously high. I had to cancel a recent order for one each of SJ with the Slitheen & DW series 3 trading cards because the cost including shipping would have been around $50 US!
I'd much rather get these from WhoNA, obviously, but at least if the cost wasn't so bad to get them direct, it might even be easier for WhoNA to import these items without having such a problem themselves.
Considering that DW has been shown here on both BBC America and Sci-Fi, it's more than just a "niche" show and there's definitely a market for these items all over. I know TRU & Newbury Comics have reportedly had items, but that's still a limited market at best.
I have no idea about licensing or marketing restrictions, but it doesn't seem to be any easier to get some things in the US than it was years ago when I watched classic DW and had to buy items from overseas if the local comic store didn't have anything, or I had to go to Science Fiction conventions to find what I wanted.
I'm still hoping that I can find the DW Series 3 cards somewhere, since I got 1 & 2 here, but I'm not holding my breath. Maybe someday WhoNA will get a series 3 & 4 set, who knows? |

| | I think part of the problem here is these figures are not selling well in the U.K. Given that these figures are not flying off the shelves overseas, combined with the high cost of importing, there are no indicators that would make a distributor like Underground want to jump all over these sets. As it is, the U.S. is fortunate enough that WHONA is going to be providing one of the SJS sets as part of one of the upcoming assortments. In truth, there doesn't seem to be a wide market for these figures overall. If the first set does well over here, perhaps we'll see more of them, but there's no guarantee. |

| Judging from the demand in these forums and the way that some of them fly out of WhoNA, you'd think these distributors would see there IS quite a market for many of these items here, at least at specialty stores if not retail toy outlets.
It's too bad that the orders from suppliers like WhoNA aren't a clear indication to them that they should be willing to expand their lines to include the US.
They're losing out on a good opportunity if they don't see that.
Maybe WhoNA should point them to these forums for a good read. |
