PostSubject: Essential 8th Doctor   Sun Feb 11, 2007 6:00 pm

Okay... at present I am unemployed and can not buy anything.

However, once I get a job and all the financial havoc gets settled, I want to catch up on the 8th Doctor (the last one I bought was The Next Life).

I do not foresee it being fiscally possible for me to get them all... so, to follow the major events and best stories, which titles should I buy and why?

Big Finish has had to redo their stories now that the 8th Dr is no longer doing "seasons," and so each story is barely part of an arc or season, so there aren't any real threads other than C'rizz's eventual fall to the dark side, which none of the Tardis crew are aware of.

The ones of most importance are "Terror Firma," mainly because it ties in with the BF Davros story arc that took place in the Colin Baker stories "Davros" and "The Juggernauts," both of which are headed for the TV version of Davros in "Remebrance of the Daleks."

"Other Lives" in the 8th Dr range is also of note because we see C'rizz's dark side reappear in an unsettling manner. The other stories around them, while entertaining, are not essential.

Hope this helps!

I understand that there is a new companion.
I assume C'rizz is gone... is Charlie still in?

What's going on is that Charlie and C'rizz will continue in the 8th Dr. range, the ones with numbers on the spine - these are the two-disc stories (current release is "Memory Lane).

A second range of audio plays was developed just for radio broadcast, but are now being released on disc one per month with McGann's Doctor alongside a new companion, Lucie, and these are single-disc releases (Blood of the Daleks, part one is the current release). This range is seperate from the other regular releases and the two ranges do not interact.

Hope this makes sense!

Oi, more of that sort of thing.
So, how many separate continuities has the 8th Doctor got now?

Sooo... C'rizz goes to the dark side, but then comes back. Okay.

8th Dr ... There's the BBC book line, the BF regular releases, and now the BBC Radio show ... he's doing quite well in that regard!

From what we heard, C'rizz has only a limited number of appearances left before his dark side is revealed and he is disposed of in some way. Because they BF regular releases are spread out instead of being done in "seasons" the arc is really getting stretched out.
