I'm thrilled that BF is shaking things up, and releasing three part stories mixed in with one part stories on some of the 2-CD releases.

But am I the only one that doesn't love the new cover design? Or, for that matter, the choice of illustrations? I just saw the new covers on the BF website, and they seem a little uninspired....

Renaissance of the Daleks looks a little pedestrian, and Horror of Glam Rock is the best title EVER, with a rather boring cover....

I'm happy that BF is now releasing shorter stories that will hopefully have a bit more pep to them. They don't have to emulate the new series so strongly, but be a bit less sluggish. The Paul McGann radio series is excellent so far, and hopefully a bit more of the direction BF will go with. I don't mind a story that's not all action, so long as the drama is good.

As for the covers, they remind me of the rather poor, blocky covers that the Virging Missing Adventures had, with the Doctor shoved over to the side and a pic from the story slapped on it. The new covers are a bit bland because to the almost monochrome choice of colors. Looks as if it's done quickly and on the cheap. Let's hope the stories are still up to snuff.

The only real shake-up so far is Briggs coming in to replace Russell. Granted that can have a great impact, but time will tell.

I can take or leave the new covers, but I agree, they seem less inspired.
They have the feel of trying to standardize and simplify as to most likely cut the cost of the artwork.
In the end the story being told inside needs the greatest attention, just as long as the covers are not horrible.

I had hoped that this relaunch would have been so much more. In the end we are still getting two disks four episodes a month.

The main series should have been more like the McGann series, one disk on average for the story. Like you wrote rplath, it does help the pacing.

With this relauch of three part 25 minute stories, that could have easily fit onto one disk, instead they tack on a one part story, and keep the cost up for two disks.

I think that an average of one disk a month would have helped both them and us. Stories would most likely be better paced, I would figure costs for them would reduce, and the cost of us buying them would have been less out of pocket.
BF might even have helped sales with such a reduced purchase cost.

My initial reaction to this change is similar. I think the release Scaredy Cat was under 80 minutes and yet spread onto two discs. I was a bit upset with that.

Still, I am hoping that perhaps this new format will work out. They probably will be filling out the discs with "CD extras" and they are fascinating to me.

Scaredy Cat is also one of those very very rare releases I felt ripped off. Like you mentioned nottenst, could have easily been put onto one disk, but I also thought the story was awful.

Interesting to note that obviously all new stories coming out will have these new re-launch covers, but currently only three releases listed till the end of the year have the 3/1 part combo.

Seems odd.

I hope they don't decide to fill up the disks with "extras."

Personally, I HATE the interviews and all the other junk. I prefer them with the story and preview of the upcoming story. And I would really like the preview to be at the END of the second disk instead of at the front. I want to listen to the story and drool for the next, not get excited about an upcoming story before listening to the current one.

If extras are going to forced upon us, a few suite of incidental music from the story would be fine.

Like you, I think all extras, including previews and the also available from stuff should all be at the end. Not in the beginning and certainly not in the middle.

Think of watching your favorite show on TV, and the first thing you see is a commercial from as yet coming episode.

As to the interview extras, sometimes OK.
Most interviews seem to be someone saying yea, it was great fun or lots of fun, want to do this here at BF all the time.
